Walmart Supercenter Planned at Santa Rita Ranch Center in Liberty Hill

Walmart Supercenter to Join Costco, Target in Liberty Hill
CRE Market Beat Take
Concentration of Walmart, Costco, Target and junior anchors in Liberty Hill meaningfully scales the trade area, likely elevating center-level credit quality and tenancy profiles for investors.

Liberty Hill, a town of about 13,000 residents, is attracting a growing roster of national retailers as a large-format Walmart Supercenter moves forward alongside recently opened and upcoming big-box stores. The community, which has already drawn interest from Costco and Target, is now set to add another major national brand to its retail lineup.

The planned Walmart Supercenter in Liberty Hill is expected to span 176,246 square feet. The project carries an anticipated development cost of $12.2 million. Construction is scheduled to begin in late October 2026, with the store targeting a mid-November 2027 opening. The new Walmart will be integrated into Santa Rita Ranch Center, described as a 400,000-square-foot retail project located in Santa Rita Ranch.

Santa Rita Ranch Center is emerging as a focal point for retail expansion in Liberty Hill, with Walmart joining an expanding cluster of large-format and complementary retailers. While specific ownership, financing structure, and leasing details for the center have not been disclosed, the scale of planned and existing stores suggests a meaningful expansion of local retail options once build-out progresses.

Big-box activity in Liberty Hill is already underway. Costco Wholesale opened a store in the town in March 2026, adding a major membership warehouse format to the market. In addition, a Target store is slated to open on October 11, further diversifying the general merchandise and soft-goods offerings available to area residents.

Beyond the national big-box anchors, a pipeline of additional retail and restaurant concepts is planned for Liberty Hill. Future projects include a Casey’s General Store, a La Tequila Jalisco Mexican restaurant, and a T.J. Maxx department store. These uses point to a mix of convenience retail, dining, and off-price soft-goods that will complement the larger-format anchors and broaden the town’s shopping and services base.

Taken together, the Walmart Supercenter, Costco, Target, and the announced follow-on retailers represent a significant enlargement of Liberty Hill’s retail footprint. As these projects deliver over the next several years, the town is poised to transition from a smaller-scale local retail environment toward a more regional draw, though detailed leasing, ownership, and capital structure information for the broader development has not been made available.
