Cantina Monarca, a Mexican restaurant concept known for its atmosphere, cuisine, and cocktails, is planning a new flagship location in Seattle. The brand will expand into the city next summer with a restaurant at Lake Union Piers, a waterfront development associated with Vulcan Real Estate. The move marks a significant step for Cantina Monarca as it introduces its concept to a lakeside setting in the Seattle market.
The planned flagship will feature approximately 8,300 square feet of interior space. In addition, plans call for about 2,700 square feet of outdoor patio space. The design program for the restaurant includes extensive greenery, natural materials, and notable architectural elements. An expansive bar and a series of thoughtfully designed dining spaces are also part of the concept, reflecting an emphasis on both the dining and bar experience.
The outdoor component is expected to be a defining feature of the new location. The restaurant’s patios are described as expansive and will be positioned to provide guests with lakeside dining. The outdoor areas are also intended to accommodate cocktails and social gatherings throughout the year, taking advantage of the site’s direct relationship with the water at Lake Union.
Bernie Garcia, founder of Cantina Monarca, framed the flagship as an effort to bring a differentiated experience to the local restaurant landscape. He stated that the team’s vision is to create something that Seattle has not seen before. Garcia also noted that the Lake Union setting offers an opportunity to deliver a distinctive concept, highlighting the potential of the site to support a special dining and social environment.
The restaurant will be part of Lake Union Piers, a five-acre waterfront property located at the southern edge of Lake Union. The development is associated with Vulcan Real Estate and is positioned along the lakefront, giving tenants direct proximity to the water. By joining this project, Cantina Monarca will align its flagship with a larger mixed-use waterfront environment that is already established in the area.
Within this context, the new flagship adds another food-and-beverage element to the Lake Union Piers site. The combination of sizable interior dining space, substantial patio areas, and a bar-focused program positions the restaurant to serve a range of use cases, from full-service dining to cocktail-driven social gatherings. The timing of the opening, targeted for next summer, places the launch in a period that typically supports strong utilization of outdoor waterfront amenities.
