Boeing is seeking local approvals for a substantial expansion of its manufacturing footprint in Mesa, with a proposal advancing to a city planning board for review. The plan calls for a nearly 268,000-square-foot addition to an existing Boeing manufacturing facility located on the east side of Greenfield Road, north of McDowell Road, further consolidating the companys presence in the area.
The new one-story structure is described as a Boeing Fabrication Center that would be built adjacent to an existing Boeing Fabrication Center totaling 158,000 square feet. According to reporting cited from AZBEX, the proposed facility would be dedicated to the fabrication of highly specialized carbon military parts, deepening the companys advanced manufacturing capabilities at the Mesa campus.
The addition would expand a site that has long been a cornerstone of Boeings operations in Arizona. The Mesa campus has for decades served as the home of AH-64 Apache helicopter production as well as broader advanced aerospace manufacturing activities. The proposed fabrication building would complement those existing functions by focusing on component production for military applications.
Boeings economic footprint in Arizona is significant. The company employs more than 4,500 people across the state and works with more than 270 suppliers and vendors. Those relationships underpin an estimated 49,000 direct and indirect jobs tied to Boeings regional operations. In 2025 alone, Boeing generated $1.1 billion in supplier spending in Arizona, reflecting the broader supply chain impact of its aerospace and defense work.
While Mesa remains the anchor of Boeings Arizona presence, its operations extend beyond the city. The company maintains additional facilities in Chandler and Goodyear, supporting a broad aerospace value chain that spans manufacturing, logistics, supply chain management, and engineering. Activity across these locations connects to Boeings national and global production programs, linking Arizona-based operations with a wider network of facilities and partners.
For the local industrial market, the proposed expansion highlights continued utilization of specialized manufacturing space by a major aerospace and defense employer. If approved by the planning board, the project would increase built industrial square footage on Boeings Mesa campus and further concentrate advanced fabrication capabilities in the area, reinforcing the role of aerospace production within the regions industrial base.
