Lenovo has opened its expanded smart campus in Whitsett, positioning the facility as a major production hub near the company’s existing fulfillment center. The new campus, described as a multi-million dollar facility, is dedicated to building servers and manufacturing products for customers in North Carolina. The investment totals $145 million and increases the Whitsett facility’s footprint to 890,000 square feet, effectively doubling its original size.
The expanded facility builds on a site that was originally constructed in 2007. Manufacturing operations are already underway at the larger campus, reflecting Lenovo’s move from construction into active production. More than 400 positions have been filled to support the ramp-up, and the company expects to add hundreds of additional jobs as output continues to scale.
Public-sector support has also played a role in the project. According to reporting from the Triad Business Journal, Lenovo received an incentive package valued at approximately $1.16 million from the Guilford County Board of Commissioners. This package underscores local government interest in supporting the company’s manufacturing and employment growth in the Greensboro-area community.
The Whitsett smart campus is known as the North Carolina Smart Campus, or NCSC, and it is integrated into Lenovo’s broader global manufacturing platform. The NCSC forms part of a network of more than 30 regional facilities that the company operates close to customer bases across 11 markets worldwide. Those markets include Argentina, Brazil, China, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, the United States, and Vietnam.
By expanding its Whitsett footprint and initiating production at the enlarged site, Lenovo is strengthening its regional manufacturing presence while linking the campus into an international system of technology production facilities. The campus expansion contributes both to local employment and to the company’s ability to serve its customer base across North Carolina and other markets.
Lenovo is identified as the world’s largest personal computer manufacturer, and the Whitsett investment reflects the company’s continued emphasis on hardware production capacity. As the NCSC scales operations, the facility’s size, employment base, and role within Lenovo’s global network position it as a significant industrial asset in the Greensboro-area manufacturing landscape.
