A new dual-branded hotel has opened in Downtown Houston, bringing 275 guest rooms to the urban core. Neway Hospitality has introduced a property operating under the IHG Hotels & Resorts family, combining a 144-room Holiday Inn Express with a 131-room Staybridge Suites in a single development.
The hotel is positioned at the intersection of Texas and Austin streets, two blocks west of Minute Maid Park. Its location places guests within a short walk of the ballpark and the broader downtown activity base, positioning the property to serve both leisure and business travelers seeking central access to Houston’s core attractions and institutions.
The development features a 20,000-square-foot amenity deck on the fifth floor. This outdoor level includes a pool, fitness center and bar, creating a consolidated recreational area for guests. Inside, the hotel offers a full lobby bar in addition to the deck bar, as well as complimentary breakfast and on-site laundry services. These features are designed to serve both short-stay and extended-stay guests across the Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites flags.
The opening comes as hospitality owners and operators in the area prepare for upcoming demand associated with the FIFA World Cup. According to Neway Hospitality, the hotel’s online reservation system went live this week and is already registering bookings specifically tied to the tournament in June and July. This early activity signals that the property is beginning to capture event-driven demand as global visitors plan their stays.
The broader area is also seeing public- and convention-related investment. The nearby George R. Brown Convention Center is in the midst of a $1.1 billion renovation program. While full details of that project are not provided here, the scale of the work underscores continued reinvestment in the convention and events infrastructure surrounding Downtown Houston.
With the combination of a dual-branded IHG offering, a sizable amenity deck and proximity to major sports and convention venues, the newly opened hotel adds fresh capacity to Houston’s downtown lodging inventory. Neway Hospitality’s launch of reservations tied to a major global sporting event illustrates how new supply is being timed to align with large-scale demand drivers in the market.
