East Penn Manufacturing Co. has been producing batteries and energy storage systems in Temple since 2022. The company is now planning a $110 million expansion.
East Penn has approached the Temple City Council for a tax abatement agreement to support the expansion of its operations at 5101 Wendland Drive. The company’s 393,000-square-foot battery finishing and distribution center could grow by an additional 175,000 square feet if a tax abatement agreement is approved.
When the facility was built in 2022, East Penn received $1.4 million in deal-closing grants through the state’s Texas Enterprise Fund. In return, the company committed to investing $106 million and creating 260 jobs. The site now employs 350 people.
