Publix Buys Another Florida Retail Center

Publix Super Markets has expanded its real estate holdings with the acquisition of the Polo Club Shops in Doral, a 134,000-square-foot shopping center anchored by one of its own stores. The purchase price was $83 million, with Jamestown Properties as the seller. The property last changed hands in 2015 for $50.65 million.

In 2022, Publix undertook a significant redevelopment of its Doral location, demolishing the existing store and constructing a new 48,387-square-foot facility. The rebuild included the signing of a new 20-year lease for the site.

The Doral acquisition follows a pattern of strategic investment by Publix in properties where it serves as the anchor tenant. The grocery chain recently purchased additional retail properties in West Kendall and two centers in Davie, further strengthening its foothold in the South Florida market.

The transaction was brokered by Cushman & Wakefield’s Retail Investment Advisors, with Mark Gilbert, Adam Feinstein, and Mitchell Halpern representing Jamestown.
