**Nauset Construction Completes New England’s First Senior Cohousing Community**

Nauset Construction has announced the completion of Hager Homestead, which is being recognized as New England’s first senior cohousing development. Located on a 15-acre site in Littleton, Massachusetts—approximately 25 miles northwest of Boston—the new neighborhood has transformed a former residential and dental practice property on King Street into a vibrant community for older adults.

The development comprises 26 one- and two-bedroom homes spread across five distinct buildings. At the heart of the community is the historic Common House, which serves as a central gathering space for residents.

The project presented several logistical and environmental challenges. Among them was the need to structurally reinforce the 18th-century Common House during excavation and new construction activities nearby. In addition, the team implemented stringent erosion controls to safeguard the surrounding wetlands while managing the simultaneous construction of five uniquely designed buildings.

“Hager Homestead challenged us to blend 18th-century architecture with 21st-century construction methods,” said Benjamin Goldfarb, Vice President of Nauset Construction. “From preserving historic façades to managing multiple concurrent builds, the project demanded innovative solutions at every phase – while delivering a community that reflects the evolving preferences of today’s active older adults.”

Hager Homestead marks a significant step in redefining senior living by promoting community, sustainability, and independent living in a collaborative residential environment.
