The BNSF Railway is making progress towards the approval of its extensive commercial real estate project in the Phoenix area. The project, which will span 4,300 acres and cost $3.2 billion, has recently passed an important voting hurdle.
According to the Phoenix Business Journal, the Maricopa County planning and zoning commission has recommended approval for a comprehensive plan amendment for 839 acres of land that will be part of Logistics Park Phoenix – as it is now called by BNSF. This recommendation will go before the Board of Supervisors on December 11th for a final vote.
BNSF plans to begin construction next year after rezoning their property in order to have everything up and running by 2028. Over the course of ten years, they aim to develop an intermodal hub where freight can be transferred between trains and trucks as well as a logistics park featuring over 18 million square feet of warehouse space on top off approximately1 ,100 acres designated specifically for rail service.
The planned location for this massive development is along Grand Avenue just outside Surprise city limits in areas like Wittmann that are more rural in nature.
