Skender has recently completed a major renovation of Chicago Public Media’s studio space, located at 848 E. Grand Ave on the iconic Navy Pier. This project follows Skender’s successful build-out of the media company’s office and café in 2019.
The extensive renovation covered a total area of 7,600 square feet and included custom soundproof windows between studios, soundproof editing booths, acoustic wall panels, mobile sound diffusers, and high-quality millwork and graphics. The new space now features four two-person edit booths as well as two anchor studios for WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times , a talk studio, backup on-air production studio,dedicated production studio,audio/visualstudio,and anon-air musicstudio.The project was executed by V Three Studios in collaboration with Skenderand Syska Hennessy Group.
According to Mike Hightower,the project manager at Skender,”Chicago Public Media is not only an important institution locally but also nationally recognized.” He added that due to their previous work experience with the organization during their office renovations in 2019,the team had developed a deep understandingofthe unique complexities involvedin completinga constructionprojectat suchan iconic location like Navy Pier.
