Skender has recently completed a major renovation of Chicago Public Media’s studio space, located at 848 E. Grand Ave on historic Navy Pier in Chicago. This project follows Skender’s previous work in 2019, which involved building out the office space and café surrounding the media company’s studios.
The extensive renovation of the 7,600-square-foot studio space included installing custom soundproof windows between studios, soundproof editing booths, acoustic wall panels, mobile sound diffusers and high-quality millwork and graphics. The new layout features four two-person edit booths as well as two anchor studios for WBEZ and the Chicago Sun-Times , a talk studio, backup on-air production studio, dedicated production studio,audio/visualstudio,and an on-air musicstudio. The project was a collaborative effort between V Three Studios,Skender, and Syska Hennessy Group.
According to Mike Hightower, the project manager at Skender,”Chicago Public Media is not only an important institution locally, but also nationally.” He added that due to their previous experience working with this organization during their office build-out in 2019,the Skender team had great familiarity with both the space itself and its people. They were able to successfully navigate through any unique challenges associated with completing construction projects on Navy Pier.
In conclusion, the renovations have been completed for Chicago Public Media’s state-of-the-art new Studio Space. This will greatly enhance their ability to produce top-notch content while maintaining excellent acoustics throughout each individual recording area.We look forwardto seeing how these improvements will positively impact this renowned media company moving forward.
