The owner of an affordable housing complex in Miami Beach has announced plans to convert the 56 apartments into a boutique hotel with 76 rooms. The decision was made after the Miami Beach Historic Preservation Committee approved the renovation of Riviera Plaza Apartments, located at 337 20th Street. Residents have been given a notice to vacate within the next 60 days.
Originally built in 1926 as a hotel, Diana and Rene Gerdom purchased the property for $41.3 million in 2015 and will now be investing an additional $22 million for construction costs. The renovated five-story building will feature amenities such as a rooftop deck, pool on one side of the building, and roof garden.
Shulman + Associates has been selected as the architect for this project.
