"New Emergency Center to Open in DC's Ward 7"

Universal Health Services (UHS) has announced a $20 million investment to establish a new emergency center in Washington, D.C.’s Ward 7. This initiative is part of the ongoing transformation of the Fletcher-Johnson campus and stems from a 2018 agreement between D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser’s administration and George Washington University Hospital, which is under UHS’s umbrella. The goal is to address healthcare disparities in underserved areas east of the Anacostia River.

The upcoming emergency facility on Benning Road will operate 24/7 with an expected staff size of 40 members, contributing to the revitalization efforts for the former Fletcher-Johnson middle school and recreation center. It is scheduled for completion by 2025 as UHS and George Washington University work together on another project – Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center in Ward 8 – further strengthening healthcare infrastructure in this region while promoting equity within D.C.’s healthcare landscape.

This announcement marks an exciting development for DC residents as they can look forward to improved access to quality emergency care without having to travel far from their community.
