Site preparation is nearing completion at Veridea in Apex, clearing the way for vertical construction on a $3 billion mixed-use development led by RXR. The project spans 1,200 acres and is planned to unfold in multiple phases over the next several years, with early activity focused on industrial, residential, retail, office, education and healthcare components.
The initial phase on the commercial side calls for two industrial buildings totaling 213,000 square feet. Plans also include 1.3 million square feet of warehouse space at full build-out, positioning industrial as a major component of the overall program. These early buildings will set the tone for the broader employment and logistics footprint within the Veridea site.
On the residential front, Summit House will be the first apartment building to rise. Construction is expected to go vertical within weeks, with initial units targeted for delivery by the end of 2027 and full completion anticipated in early 2028. Summit House is planned as a four-story property with 291 studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments, establishing a multifamily presence at the heart of the master-planned community.
Retail and office uses will be concentrated in Veridea Crossing, a 220,000 square foot component within the East Village area of the development. Openings at Veridea Crossing are scheduled to begin in early 2028, creating a commercial hub that combines shopping and workspace. An anchor grocer is expected to follow, with an opening planned for 2029, adding a significant daily-needs draw for residents and workers.
Education is also part of the mix, with a new campus for Wake Tech slated within the Veridea site. Construction on the campus is expected to begin by the end of this year, with a targeted opening in fall 2029. The campus is planned to serve approximately 3,000 students, adding an institutional and workforce-training dimension to the larger development.
Healthcare is represented by the planned NC Children’s Hospital, another major component of Veridea. Construction on the hospital is projected to begin in summer 2027, with the first phases scheduled to deliver in 2031. Together, the industrial, multifamily, retail, office, education and healthcare elements underscore the scale of Veridea as a long-term, multi-use build-out in Apex.
