Tishman Speyer has completed a long-term lease with Madewell for a new retail store at 1 Rockefeller Plaza, bringing the fashion brand to Rockefeller Center for the first time. The lease covers 7,340 square feet and the store is scheduled to open in 2027, adding another national retail name to the landmark complex.
According to the announcement, the new Madewell store will be designed to deliver the brand’s full in-store experience, with a focus on its well-known denim assortment and everyday wardrobe staples. The space will present Madewell’s approach to premium denim, apparel, and accessories for both women and men, reflecting the brand’s emphasis on thoughtful design and an innovative take on denim.
The concept for the store will showcase Madewell’s signature styling as well as its broader lifestyle positioning. In addition to merchandising, the retailer plans to incorporate community-focused programming, aligning with its efforts to create an engaging environment for customers. While specific program details were not disclosed, the company and landlord framed the new location as a platform to highlight the brand’s denim expertise and its broader fashion offerings.
Tishman Speyer, which oversees Rockefeller Center, described the Madewell lease as part of an ongoing effort to curate a mix of tenants that resonate with contemporary consumers. EB Kelly, Senior Managing Director at Tishman Speyer and Head of Rockefeller Center, noted that the destination continues to attract brands that influence culture and consumer behavior on a global scale. Kelly added that Madewell’s decision to open at Rockefeller Center underscores the property’s combination of an iconic New York identity with current cultural relevance.
With this agreement, Madewell secures a prominent footprint within one of New York’s most recognizable mixed-use destinations, and Rockefeller Center further expands its retail lineup with a tenant that emphasizes denim-forward fashion and lifestyle-driven customer engagement. No additional lease terms, such as rental rates or specific duration beyond its description as long term, were disclosed in the announcement.
