**New York State Commits $1 Billion in Housing Bonds and Subsidies to Create Nearly 3,000 Affordable Homes**

Governor Kathy Hochul has announced a major step forward in addressing New York’s housing crisis, with nearly 3,000 affordable, energy-efficient homes set to be created or preserved across the state. This effort is part of a broader $25 billion, five-year plan aimed at generating or retaining 100,000 affordable housing units throughout New York.

“These strategic investments are directly aimed at solving New York’s housing crunch and reducing costs for families by increasing the availability of affordable housing across the state,” said Governor Hochul. “We’re making meaningful progress by delivering modern, supportive, and sustainable housing for the New Yorkers who need it most.”

The funding for these developments comes from New York State Homes and Community Renewal, which recently issued $560 million in tax-exempt housing bonds and $466 million in subsidies. When leveraged with private investment, the total expected investment from the 15 funded projects is estimated at $1.5 billion.

Among the projects receiving the most significant support is Vital Brooklyn Alafia Phase 2, a 634-unit development currently under construction by Apex Real Estate Development. This project alone will receive $326 million in public financing, making it the largest of the funded developments.

Six of the 15 awarded projects are located in New York City, highlighting the state’s commitment to addressing housing challenges in its most densely populated areas. The initiative reflects the governor’s comprehensive strategy of combining public funding with private partnerships to accelerate the development of accessible, energy-efficient housing across urban and rural communities alike.
