Glenmark Pharmaceuticals Opens Largest North American Distribution Center in PA
CRE Market Beat Take
Glenmark’s decision to centralize U.S. distribution in Lehigh Valley reinforces the region’s appeal for pharma logistics users, supporting investor conviction in modern industrial assets tied to life sciences supply chains.

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals has inaugurated a new 160,000-square-foot distribution facility in Upper Macungie Township, Pennsylvania, establishing its largest distribution center in North America. The company recently held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the launch of the facility, which expands Glenmark’s logistics footprint in the U.S. and consolidates its distribution operations into a single, national hub.

The distribution center sits on a 6.5-acre campus and serves as Glenmark’s sole U.S. distribution hub. From this location, the company ships prescription and over-the-counter medicines to 321 locations across 43 states. The operation is supported by a 45-person team responsible for operations, quality and administrative functions that underpin Glenmark’s U.S. supply chain.

The facility is located in Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley, a region that has become a notable cluster for healthcare, pharmaceutical and life sciences activity. Glenmark chose the Upper Macungie Township site after evaluating 130 properties in multiple states, indicating a broad site-selection process before committing to the Allentown-area location. The new distribution center integrates into Glenmark’s broader North American platform, which includes its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey, a manufacturing facility in North Carolina, and Ichnos Glenmark Innovation, its wholly owned biotechnology subsidiary in New York.

Lehigh Valley already hosts the U.S. headquarters of several global healthcare and technology companies, including B. Braun, Olympus and Sharp. The region is also home to operations for Thermo Fisher Scientific, Piramal Critical Care and OraSure Technologies, reinforcing its position as a growing node for life sciences and medical-related industries. Glenmark’s decision to site its largest North American distribution facility in this market adds another international healthcare company to the local roster.

Activity in Pennsylvania’s life sciences and pharmaceutical sectors extends beyond Lehigh Valley. Work has recently begun on what has been described as the largest life sciences investment in state history: a $3.5 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing campus to be developed by Eli Lilly and Company. While that project is centered in Philadelphia, it underscores the scale of capital and corporate commitment flowing into the state’s life sciences and pharmaceutical ecosystem.

Together, Glenmark’s new distribution hub in Upper Macungie Township and the broader corporate presence in Lehigh Valley highlight the area’s role as a logistics and operations base for pharmaceutical and medical companies. For the industrial real estate landscape, these commitments signal ongoing demand for well-located, modern distribution and manufacturing facilities serving the healthcare and life sciences sectors.
