Buc-ee’s is extending its fast-growing travel center footprint across the Southeastern United States with a slate of five planned stores that will roll out over the next several years. The chain, long known as a regional roadside stop, has gained wider visibility as international soccer visitors share their experiences on social media, turning the brand into a widely recognized example of large-format American roadside retail.
The retailer’s sites are notable for their scale, offering a broad assortment of convenience goods and fuel across buildings that are typically larger than many conventional supermarkets. Some existing locations exceed 75,000 square feet, underscoring the chain’s focus on high-volume operations and extensive on-site merchandise. That format is expected to carry through to the new Southeast stores, which are part of a broader expansion that will push Buc-ee’s presence well beyond its current footprint.
Today, Buc-ee’s operates 55 locations across 12 states, and the company has publicly signaled that this count will rise by 2031 as its pipeline of planned facilities comes online. The five new Southeast locations represent a significant component of that pipeline, structured around a phased delivery schedule that stretches from 2024 into the next decade.
The expansion will begin with a store in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, which is slated to open on November 16. This location is positioned as an early milestone in the current growth wave, giving the company another anchor in the Southeast and demonstrating that projects in the pipeline are moving toward operation.
Additional growth is planned for the latter part of the decade. Buc-ee’s has confirmed a store in Monroe County, Georgia, as well as another location in Gallaway, Tennessee, both scheduled to arrive in 2027. These commitments indicate that the chain is locking in sites and timelines several years in advance, providing a clearer view of its longer-range expansion plans in the region.
Looking further ahead, Buc-ee’s expects to open a new store in Mebane, North Carolina, in 2028. The rollout then extends into the early 2030s, with the final phase of the current expansion program including a planned location in Hardeeville, South Carolina, targeted for 2031. Together, the five new Southeast stores illustrate how Buc-ee’s is sequencing its growth, layering near-term openings with medium- and long-term projects.
While the company has not disclosed store sizes or development costs for these locations, the emphasis on large-format buildings and a multi-year horizon suggests a sustained commitment to expanding its regional network. For commercial real estate stakeholders, the pipeline highlights ongoing demand for sizable highway-oriented retail projects in select Southeast markets, anchored by a single, traffic-generating operator.
