The Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation has introduced a new group of small businesses at its Yard Opportunity Shop storefront, marking the third rotation for the initiative. The current season features the YOS x Made in NYC Bodega, bringing together four brands under one roof: Doosra, Gracie Baked, Live Loud Foods and Oso Cacao.
The Yard Opportunity Shop, located in Building 92 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, operates on three-month rotations designed to showcase small, minority-and-women-owned businesses. Through these limited-time engagements, participating companies are able to promote their products, test new ideas and gather direct feedback from customers within the surrounding Brooklyn community.
The program is structured to provide a platform for businesses that may be in the early stages of growth or exploring new concepts. By concentrating multiple brands in a single storefront, YOS offers each participant exposure to foot traffic generated by the broader Navy Yard ecosystem, while giving local residents and workers a changing selection of food and retail offerings.
According to the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, the Yard Opportunity Shop is one component of a broader pipeline of initiatives aimed at supporting local minority-and-women-owned retail entrepreneurs. These efforts are intended to create more opportunities for such businesses to access customers, refine their operating models and better understand demand for their products.
Lindsay Greene, president and CEO of the Brooklyn Navy Yard Development Corporation, described the effort in the context of the wider New York food landscape, noting that the city is known for a dynamic culinary sector shaped by entrepreneurial energy and experimentation. She emphasized that the Navy Yard is intended to serve as a place where that kind of innovation has the space and support needed to develop.
With the Yard Opportunity Shop now in its third season, the Brooklyn Navy Yard continues to use the ground-floor storefront as a rotating platform for small businesses. While program details such as future participants and long-term expansion plans were not disclosed, the latest YOS x Made in NYC Bodega rotation reflects an ongoing focus on local, small-scale food producers and MWBE-led brands engaging directly with the neighborhood around the historic industrial campus.
