Hospital Group Reveals Completion Date for $240M Waxahachie Addition
CRE Market Beat Take
This owner-occupied $240 million expansion underscores durable demand for purpose-built medical facilities, a supportive signal for nearby medical office and healthcare real estate assets.

Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie is moving toward completion of a major expansion, with a new six-story inpatient tower on its 52-acre campus expected to be ready for use this fall. Construction work on the tower itself has wrapped, and the project has shifted into final preparation, including staff training, installation of medical equipment, detailed cleaning, and establishing operational processes for the new space.

The $240 million inpatient facility is designed to expand the hospital’s capacity and clinical capabilities. The project will introduce 59 additional inpatient beds to the existing 140-bed medical center, significantly increasing the number of patients the hospital can accommodate. The tower will also house an intensive care unit along with an enlarged emergency department and surgery department, aligning the hospital’s physical plant with higher-acuity care needs.

The expansion is expected to have a notable impact on local employment as the enlarged complex comes online. The hospital anticipates generating roughly 200 new jobs within the first year of operations tied to the new inpatient tower. Over the subsequent two to three years, the total number of additional positions is projected to reach up to 400 as services scale and utilization of the new space ramps up.

Beyond increasing bed count and acute care capacity, the investment will support a broader range of clinical services. The hospital plans to offer expanded advanced cardiac care, higher levels of trauma care, and advanced cancer care as the new facilities are activated. These service line expansions are intended to build on the existing capabilities of the Waxahachie campus and reduce the need for patients to seek complex care at more distant locations.

In a related component of the overall campus growth, Baylor Scott & White is also constructing a separate medical building across the street from the main facility. The new 29,000-square-foot structure will be dedicated to outpatient services, including primary care, imaging, and urgent care. Once complete, this building will complement the inpatient tower by creating additional access points for non-emergent and follow-up care in close proximity to the main hospital.

Together, the inpatient tower and the new outpatient building represent a substantial expansion of healthcare infrastructure at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie. The projects are intended to accommodate rising patient demand, broaden the scope of services available on the campus, and support ongoing employment growth tied directly to the healthcare sector.
