Bass Pro Shops is planning a new retail destination in College Station, Texas, extending the outdoor retailer’s ongoing expansion across the state. The newest Texas location will add to a network that already includes recently opened stores in Odessa, Tyler, Spring and Grand Prairie, as well as a planned store in Abilene.
With the additions in College Station and Abilene, Bass Pro Shops is expected to operate 20 retail destinations statewide. The company has grown its brick-and-mortar platform to nearly 200 locations across North America, and the College Station site represents its latest commitment to large-format retail in the region.
The planned store in College Station will total approximately 100,000 square feet and is described as a retail destination for the brand. The project will be situated next to the future South College Station baseball and softball complex, positioning the store near a forthcoming recreational amenity and expected activity node for the community.
At full operation, the College Station Bass Pro Shops is expected to employ more than 125 Outfitters, adding a significant number of retail and service jobs to the local economy. The store is currently anticipated to open in 2028, providing a multi-year runway for site planning, permitting, construction and store preparation.
The City of College Station sold the land for the project to Bass Pro Shops, enabling the retailer to move forward with its development plans adjacent to the future sports complex. While specific financial terms of the land sale and development were not disclosed, the transaction underscores the municipality’s role in facilitating the new retail use.
Across North America, Bass Pro Shops continues to grow its footprint of destination-format stores that cater to outdoor, fishing and hunting customers. The new College Station location will expand the brand’s presence in Texas and add another large-format retail asset to the city’s commercial inventory once it is delivered and opened to the public.
