Amwins Group is moving forward with plans for a new 15-story office tower totaling 250,000 square feet at the former Sharon Station site on Sharon Road. The global insurance company estimates the project cost at $39 million. Plans call for nine office floors to be stacked above six levels of parking, anchored by a lobby and approximately 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space.
According to reporting from the Charlotte Business Journal, construction is expected to take between 24 and 30 months. Amwins intends to begin moving more than 500 employees into the new building before the end of 2028. The company anticipates initially occupying seven of the nine office floors, leaving two office floors available for future expansion as its space needs grow.
Amwins currently leases about 106,000 square feet across six floors at Two Piedmont Town Center, which is located roughly a mile from the planned tower site. That lease is scheduled to expire in November 2028, giving the company a window to complete construction, relocate staff, and manage the transition between the two locations. The new project is designed to consolidate Amwins’ area footprint into a purpose-built tower with dedicated parking and on-site retail.
Keith Corp is serving as the developer for the office tower, overseeing planning and execution of the project at the former Sharon Station site. Brasfield & Gorrie has been selected as the lead contractor and will be responsible for delivering the building, including the structured parking and office and retail components. The project team is positioning the property to support Amwins’ long-term occupancy needs while reserving additional office space for potential internal growth.
On the retail side, Thrift Commercial Real Estate Services has been engaged to handle leasing of the approximately 7,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. The involvement of a dedicated retail leasing firm indicates an effort to curate a tenant mix that can serve both building employees and the surrounding community. No retail tenants or opening dates have been announced, and specific financing terms and lenders for the development have not been disclosed in the available information.
