Tesla is expanding its presence in Texas, this time settling into Hays County. The company has leased three buildings totaling 1.4 million square feet at a Kyle logistics park for warehouse storage and light assembly purposes. Houston-based Alliance Industrial Co is developing the facility which will presumably support Tesla’s gigafactory located 35 miles away in eastern Travis County with over 12,000 employees already employed there.
Tesla now holds the title of largest manufacturer in Austin by both headcount and square footage with more than 12,000 people on staff – only surpassed by grocery giant H-E-B, hospital system Ascension Texas and computer firm Dell as Central Texas’ biggest private sector employers.
