Huntington Bank Signs Lease Expansion at Chicago Office Tower
CRE Market Beat Take
The long-term expansion by a regional banking tenant, alongside a major law firm HQ extension, underscores durable demand for well-amenitized Class A space in Chicago’s CBD even amid broader office headwinds.

Huntington Bank is expanding its presence at 222 N. LaSalle Street, a 26-story office tower in downtown Chicago. Tishman Speyer announced that the bank has signed a 10-year lease expansion covering 23,223 square feet, bringing Huntington’s overall footprint in the building to approximately 60,900 square feet.

The bank has maintained offices at 222 N. LaSalle since 2011, and the new commitment extends its long-standing occupancy at the riverfront tower. Patrice DeCorrevont, president of Huntington’s Illinois/Wisconsin region, said the expansion reflects the momentum the institution is seeing in its Chicago operations and underscores its long-term commitment to the region. DeCorrevont added that the investment in additional space is intended to support Huntington’s teams and enhance its ability to serve customers and communities.

Tishman Speyer serves as both property manager and leasing agent for 222 N. LaSalle. The landlord was represented in the Huntington Bank transaction by Ellen May and Steve Golz. While specific lease economics were not disclosed, the new agreement increases Huntington’s role as a significant office tenant within the building.

222 N. LaSalle has recently undergone an expansive renovation program aimed at repositioning the property within the downtown Chicago office market. The upgrades focused on bringing hospitality-inspired elements and enhanced amenities into the riverfront tower. Following the unveiling of its renovation plans in 2024, the building has attracted substantial leasing activity, securing 490,000 square feet of leases.

The tower totals approximately one million square feet and is now 87 percent leased, according to Tishman Speyer. Huntington Bank’s lease expansion follows a 163,000-square-foot lease extension by law firm Vedder, which will keep its global headquarters at 222 N. LaSalle through 2041. Together, these commitments highlight the building’s ability to retain and grow key tenants following its repositioning.

The combination of long-term commitments from a major financial institution and an international law firm reinforces 222 N. LaSalle’s position within the Chicago office market. With its renovation program completed and a high level of occupancy reported, the property appears to be benefiting from tenant demand for upgraded office environments in a central business district location.
