**MTA Launches Environmental Review for Interborough Express Light Rail Project**
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) has officially begun the environmental review process for the Interborough Express (IBX), a proposed light rail project aimed at connecting the boroughs of Brooklyn and Queens. This marks a significant milestone following the start of preliminary engineering and design this past August.
“900,000 New Yorkers live along the proposed IBX route, and we’re not going to waste any time advancing this project for them,” said MTA Chair and CEO Janno Lieber. “Launching the state environmental review process gives us the momentum we need to move this transformational effort toward construction.”
As part of the review process, the MTA will host a series of public meetings to outline the scope of the IBX project and gather community feedback. The first meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29, at Brooklyn College. This will be followed by a session on Thursday, November 6, at Christ the King High School in Middle Village, Queens. A virtual meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 12.
These meetings aim to engage the public and provide transparency as the MTA moves forward with one of the most ambitious transit expansions in the city’s recent history. The IBX project is expected to significantly enhance connectivity and reduce travel times for area residents without requiring a trip through Manhattan.
