**Construction Kicks Off on Northeastern University’s 23-Story Dormitory Tower in Boston**
Early-stage site work has begun on a new 23-story tower for Northeastern University in Boston, according to the Boston Business Journal. The mixed-use development, located at 840 Columbus Avenue, will feature 800 student beds, academic space, and community facilities. The project is part of Northeastern’s ongoing effort to improve campus housing and will replace 500 existing beds located in the Fenway neighborhood.
In early August, developer American Campus Communities (ACC) initiated site remediation work and is in the process of securing final permits for vertical construction. The university anticipates that permitting will be completed in the coming weeks.
Slated for completion in 2028, the project is designed to support Northeastern’s commitment under its 2013 Institutional Master Plan, which includes delivering 1,000 net new student beds to the City of Boston.
According to BLDUP, the additional student housing is expected to better align with student preferences and allow Northeastern to return some of its existing student-occupied properties in Fenway to the open market.
