**Genesis HealthCare Files for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy Protection**

Genesis HealthCare, Inc., a leading operator in skilled nursing and senior living, has filed voluntary petitions for relief under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. The filing was made in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Texas, Dallas Division.

Headquartered in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Genesis operates more than 200 facilities across 19 states. The company stated that the bankruptcy filing is a strategic move intended to allow uninterrupted operations while addressing significant legacy liabilities associated with previously divested assets.

According to reports, Genesis HealthCare has liabilities estimated between $1 billion and $10 billion. The filing outlines a potential scenario in which an affiliate may acquire the company’s operations as part of the restructuring process.

David Harrington, Executive Chairman of Genesis HealthCare, emphasized the progress the organization has made in recent years through a strategic shift toward more localized, market-based operations.

“We have much to be proud of for the tremendous progress we have made as an organization over the last several years as we have implemented a forward-looking, enterprise-wide shift from centralized to market-based operations,” said Harrington. “Our ongoing work has confirmed that, to maintain our momentum, we must address our legacy debt structure.”

The bankruptcy filing is a step toward ensuring the long-term sustainability and growth of the organization while safeguarding its ability to provide continued care and services across its network of facilities.
