Midway Development is proposing a $40 million hotel project on the campus of Texas State University in San Marcos. In hopes of securing significant financial support, the developer is seeking a $9.1 million incentive package from the San Marcos City Council. The proposed incentives include a rebate on 95% of both sales taxes and hotel occupancy taxes, which would gradually reduce to 50% over time. Additionally, the package includes a rebate on construction-related sales taxes.
The planned hotel will feature 130 rooms and provide full-service amenities, including an event lawn, amphitheater, restaurant, bar, and flexible meeting and event space.
San Marcos, located approximately 30 miles south of Austin, has a growing population nearing 75,000. Texas State University, which will host the hotel on its campus, enrolls over 40,000 students, making the site a hub of activity and a strategic location for the project.
