**Two DFW Supermarkets Set to Close Amid Chain Restructuring**
Two grocery stores in the Dallas-Fort Worth area are preparing to shut their doors in the coming weeks.
Kroger will close its store located at the intersection of University Avenue and US 75 in McKinney later this summer. This closure is part of a larger corporate strategy to shutter 60 underperforming locations nationwide, while simultaneously expanding into high-growth markets. Despite this closure, Kroger maintains two other stores in McKinney and has recently opened new locations in Plano, Melissa, and Fort Worth.
Kroger remains the largest supermarket chain in the United States, operating 2,731 stores across 35 states and the District of Columbia. The company does business under various brand names, including Smith’s, Ralphs, King Soopers, and Fred Meyer.
Meanwhile, a Tom Thumb store at 2200 E. 14th Street in Plano is scheduled to close in late July. The closure affects only one of five Tom Thumb locations in the city, with the remaining stores continuing normal operations.
These closures reflect ongoing efforts by supermarket chains to adapt to changing market conditions and customer demands.
