Scripps La Jolla Completes Construction on North Tower

Design firm HGA has announced the completion of the North Tower at Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla. Situated near Interstate 5 on Genesee Avenue, the new eight-story, 420,000-square-foot facility includes a fully functioning hospital with 188 inpatient beds. The tower also houses the hospital’s mother-baby services and marks a major milestone in Scripps Health’s broader plan to redevelop and modernize its La Jolla campus.

Designed to complement the adjacent Prebys Cardiovascular Institute, the North Tower expands Scripps’ capacity while enhancing the patient and provider experience. “HGA’s collaborative design approach allowed us to identify and focus on elements essential for a positive patient experience,” said Tim Jacoby, Scripps Health’s Corporate Vice President for Facilities, Construction and Design.

As part of its responsibilities for the project, HGA led the development of a central energy plan (CEP) expansion to support the new tower and oversaw various site improvements. The firm worked in partnership with KPFF on structural and civil engineering, AEI for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and McCarthy Building Companies, which handled construction.

The North Tower stands as a significant addition to the Scripps Health network, aimed at meeting future healthcare demands while reinforcing the organization’s commitment to high-quality patient care.
