**SA Downtown Ballpark Project Moves Forward with Major Funding Approval**
The long-discussed vision of a new baseball stadium in downtown San Antonio is finally gaining momentum. After years of speculation and minimal progress, the San Antonio City Council has approved a significant measure to fund the proposed stadium — marking the most substantial step yet toward making the project a reality.
The planned center-city stadium will become the new home of the San Antonio Missions and is projected to open in time for the 2028 baseball season. As part of a larger mixed-use development, the stadium could generate an estimated $1 billion in economic impact, according to the San Antonio Business Journal.
Central to the project is the establishment of a special authority, approved by the ordinance, which will own the stadium and have the ability to raise public funds. This authority will issue bonds to finance the estimated $160 million construction cost.
Ownership of the team includes a prominent local investor group made up of Bruce Hill, Weston Urban co-founders Graham Weston and Randy Smith, media executive Bob Cohen, and San Antonio Spurs Chairman Peter J. Holt.
With the financial structure now in place, the long-envisioned downtown ballpark appears closer than ever to becoming a cornerstone of San Antonio’s urban and economic development.
