**Downtown San Jose Net-Zero Initiative Advances with New Data Centers and Housing**

As part of a pioneering initiative between Pacific Gas & Electric Company (PG&E) and real estate developer Westbank, the San Jose City Council has approved the advancement of the first two of three proposed downtown data centers. These data centers are a key component of a broader vision that includes 4,000 residential units powered and regulated through a district energy system, creating what is being described as a net-zero carbon community.

“The Silicon Valley Initiative is about the evolution of energy, housing, and AI infrastructure—it will create a more inspiring and sustainable community that demonstrates leadership globally,” said Ian Gillespie, CEO of Westbank. “In PG&E and the City of San Jose, we have found collaborators who share our vision and commitment. We’re looking forward to working together to bring this initiative to life.”

Pacific Gas & Electric has already begun critical upgrades to infrastructure that will deliver approximately 200 megawatts of power to the proposed data centers. Meanwhile, Westbank has issued a global call for data center partners, with Eastdil Secured leading the search and engagement process.

This initiative is expected to position downtown San Jose as a leader in sustainable development while advancing the integration of energy, housing, and technology infrastructure in a future-focused urban environment.
