Lauderhill Mall to Add Apartments

The latest trend across the nation is mall owners repurposing unused space by incorporating residential units. The City Commission will be reviewing a special exception request to allow mixed-use development in the general commercial district that encompasses Lauderhill Mall at 1267 N.W. 40th Ave. IMC Equity Group, who acquired the mall for $17.8 million in 2012, is spearheading this project.

The proposed mixed-use project would consist of 233 apartments, all one- or two-bedroom units, and approximately 14,186 square feet of commercial space. This would entail a five-story building with ground-floor commercial space and 56 apartments; an eight-story building with a clubhouse and122 apartments; as well as another five-story building featuring55apartments.
