The Denver City Council has approved Kroenke Sports & Entertainment’s proposal for a major redevelopment project near Ball Arena, home to the Denver Nuggets and Colorado Avalanche.
According to the Denver Business Journal, this redevelopment will include 6,000 housing units, 780 hotel rooms, retail spaces, a recreation center and child care facility. It will also feature new transit stops and a 3-acre park that will improve connectivity with surrounding neighborhoods.
Construction on this project could begin as early as next year but is expected to take up to three decades to complete. The council unanimously rezoned the land in order for buildings of up to 12 stories with incentives on certain parts of the development.
In addition, an amendment was passed by the council ensuring that both teams – Colorado Avalanche hockey team and Denver Nuggets basketball team – will remain in their current location until at least June 30th ,2050. A development agreement was also put into place.
