Wellstone Health System has enlisted the help of The Integral Group to lead the redevelopment of Atlanta Medical Center, which has been closed since November 2022. Construction is set to commence in the coming weeks.
The project will transform the 22-acre campus into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood featuring affordable housing, residential properties, green spaces for public use and community gatherings, local retail options, improved street access points, commercial facilities and resources for health and well-being.
Integral will spend the next few weeks creating an implementation plan while also seeking input from nearby residents and other stakeholders. This revitalization effort will be carried out in stages over multiple years with continuous involvement from community members at each step. In response to their desire for swift progress, Integral plans on applying for necessary permits soon so that demolition work can begin as early as Q1 of 2025 on some older structures.
According to Wellstar’s statement released at the time of closure in November 2022 , declining revenue coupled with rising costs related to staffing and supplies were cited as reasons behind Atlanta Medical Center’s shutdown.
