The City Council of Conroe has implemented a temporary development moratorium in the northern part of the city, citing potential water shortages as the main reason. This decision was made to combat any further strain on existing water resources.
While residents will only experience restrictions on irrigation, developers will face more significant consequences. According to Community Impact, this moratorium applies to all areas in northern Conroe except for Panorama Village and certain subdivisions and utility districts.
The City estimates that approximately $50 million is needed for necessary upgrades to its water infrastructure. Councilmember Howard Wood believes that previous overdevelopment and decision-making have contributed significantly to this challenging situation faced by Conroe.
