Shepherd Center's $120 Million Expansion: A Comprehensive Overview

The construction of a $120 million project, aimed at providing long-term housing for guests from The Shepherd Center, has been completed. The newly built 16-story residential tower on Peachtree Road has more than doubled the center’s capacity to accommodate its patients.

As one of the leading hospitals in spinal cord and brain injury rehabilitation in the country, The Shepherd Center reports that over half of its patients come from outside Georgia. Previously, families could only be housed for up to 30 days at the hospital. However, with an average stay almost twice as long as that time frame, this new project will greatly benefit those seeking extended care.

Named after Arthur M. Blank – co-founder of Home Depot and owner of both Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United – who generously donated $50 million towards this initiative; The Arthur M. Blank Family Residences boasts 165 apartments which will start welcoming guests in October.

The building comprises 100 one-bedroom units and 65 two-bedroom units along with various amenities such as a communal kitchen, meeting rooms, library and recreation room. Additionally,a relic from the property’s past -the bison statue formerly located at Ted’s Montana Grill- can now be found within an outdoor garden area.

With plans to open another building next year, the expansion is expected to further enhance services provided by The Shepherd Center.
