Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey announced on Thursday that Lifespan Corporation has submitted an asset purchase agreement (APA) to acquire and operate Saint Anne’s Hospital in Fall River and Morton Hospital in Taunton. Additionally, Lawrence General Hospital has filed an APA to take over both campuses of Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill and Methuen. These four hospitals were previously owned by Steward Health before the company declared bankruptcy in May.
The financial details of these agreements have not been disclosed. However, they will need approval from the bankruptcy court at a hearing scheduled for September 4th. The state will provide support for these new operators during a limited time period, according to Healey.
There is still one more transfer yet to be finalized: Boston Medical Center’s acquisition of Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. In addition, the Healey-Driscoll administration is working on taking control of Saint Elizabeth’s hospital through eminent domain as part of facilitating its transition under new ownership by Boston Medical Center.
