Dana-Farber Cancer Center and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center have announced plans for a new cancer facility in Boston’s Longwood Medical Area. The project, estimated to cost $1.68 billion, was reported by the Boston Business Journal.
The proposed facility will span 688,100 square feet and feature a 300-bed adult inpatient hospital. It will also involve the construction of a tunnel and bridge to connect it with Dana-Farber’s current location. This expansion aims to increase access to adult cancer care services and relocate Dana-Farber’s existing 30 inpatient beds from its current site at 75 Francis St., pending regulatory approval.
The announcement of this major development marks an important step forward for improving cancer treatment options in the area.
