"Port Tampa Seeks to Expand with 4th Cruise Terminal"

Port Tampa Bay is set to embark on a major development project with an estimated investment of $80 million. According to engineers, the existing three cruise terminals are reaching their capacity and there is a need for a new terminal without disrupting current operations.

In order to move forward with this project, port commissioners have approved a contract worth $500,000 with HDR Engineering Inc. The new terminal will be located north of Terminal 6 and south of Darryl Shaw’s planned multiuse development called Ybor Harbor. To make room for the new terminal, a man-made slip will be filled in.

Funding for this project could come from various sources including grants and private co-investors. While some cruise lines have already shown interest in the project, specific companies cannot be named at this time due to confidentiality agreements.

According to reports from Tampa Bay Journal, Port Tampa Bay also has plans to demolish Terminal 6 once the fourth terminal is completed. This decision comes as some cruise lines view Terminal 6 as outdated despite recent renovations.

The addition of another cruise terminal marks an exciting milestone for Port Tampa Bay as it continues its growth and expansion efforts within the industry.
