"NY Plans $120M Project to Renovate Lexington Ave Armory"

New York is seeking a construction firm to undertake a $120 million renovation project for the historic Lexington Avenue Armory, home to the New York National Guard’s 69th Regiment. Governor Kathy Hochul has announced plans for the renovation, which include replacing mechanical, electric and plumbing systems, improving accessibility and making interior upgrades. The designs have been completed by Marvel, an architecture firm based in New York.

The state will cover approximately 25% of the costs while the federal government will contribute $90 million. The Beaux Arts design of Lexington Avenue Armory sets it apart from other active armories in Manhattan. While many others have been repurposed into cultural centers or community facilities, this one remains a military readiness center. By mid-August,the state aims to select a winning bidder for this project.
