Construction is currently underway for the $830 million Obama Presidential Center, with recent updates provided by the Obama Foundation. The facility’s Programs and Athletic Center, one of four buildings on the 19-acre campus, has begun construction and will serve as a central hub for activities and gatherings on Chicago’s South Side. This building will feature a gymnasium and studios to support recreational, wellness, and community events.
The Obama Foundation also announced that former President Barack Obama plans to visit Chicago in order to view a demonstration of an upcoming digital media exhibit at the future home of the Obama Presidential Center Museum. During his visit, he will meet with leaders from Moody Nolan -the largest African American design firm in America- as well as Elevate Design Builders -a joint venture between Bowa Construction and AECOM/Hunt.
The Programs & Athletic Center is set to open in late 2025 while The Obama Presidential Center Museum is expected to welcome visitors starting in 2026.
