"Google's Transformation Plans for Thompson Center Revealed in New Renderings"

Google has unveiled renderings and details for their upcoming renovation of the historic James R. Thompson Center in Chicago’s Loop. The City of Chicago has approved permits for Google to demolish and transform the exterior and atrium of this iconic property.

Construction is set to begin early next year on rehabilitating the 425,000-square-foot, 37-story building located at 115 LaSalle as Google prepares to establish it as their new headquarters in Chicago. Maintaining its architectural integrity is a top priority during this process.

In 2022, Google purchased the building from the State of Illinois for $105 million with plans to preserve its postmodern design by renowned architect Jahn Helmut. While keeping intact its signature feature – a striking 17-story atrium – a new glass-front design will be implemented allowing space for additional food and beverage retailers within the center.

The latest updates on Google’s transformation project can be found exclusively on Connect CRE.
