Woodlawn Mixed-Income Development Team Selected by City

Woodlawn Mixed-Income Development Team Selected by City

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Wednesday the selection of a 70-unit mixed-use, mixed-income residential complex as the winning proposal to redevelop vacant city land in Woodlawn. The $48.4 million “Woodlawn Social” project from developers POAH and KMW was chosen over two other proposals for development sites on East 63rd Street’s 900 and 1000 blocks.

Lightfoot commented that this combination of affordable and market rate housing, along with retail spaces and recreation areas will be beneficial to Woodlawn neighborhood residents.  A 2022 Request for Qualifications drew more than 30 proposals which were narrowed down to three contenders before selecting Woodlawn Social as the winner. This project includes a six story building containing 60 affordable rental units plus a four story structure with 10 market rate townhomes available for sale; there is also an outdoor courtyard measuring 10,000 square feet exclusively for residents’ use along with 9,000 square feet plaza open to public access plus 8500 square feet ground floor space accommodating up to four retail tenants .
