**WinnCompanies Completes $55.3M Adaptive Reuse Project in Holyoke for Senior Housing**

WinnCompanies has completed a $55.3 million adaptive reuse development, transforming a long-abandoned historic mill complex in downtown Holyoke, Massachusetts, into 88 affordable apartment homes for residents aged 55 and older.

Named the Residences on Appleton, the project revitalized three interconnected industrial buildings that are more than a century old—each originally constructed 111 years ago. These structures were part of the former largest alpaca wool mill complex in the world and had sat dormant for decades before being brought back to life as a residential community. The new loft-style apartments reached full occupancy less than three months after opening, highlighting the strong demand for senior housing in the region.

“This effort preserved an iconic feature of Holyoke’s proud industrial legacy, created much-needed housing for seniors who want to stay in the community they love, and provided an economic boost to the city’s downtown,” said Larry Curtis, Chairman of WinnDevelopment. “We hope to begin work soon on a second phase that will deliver 75 additional apartments in an adjacent part of the complex.”

The first phase of the Residences on Appleton project is part of a broader effort to foster revitalization while addressing the affordable housing needs of the senior population in Holyoke. WinnCompanies’ investment represents a significant milestone in adaptive reuse and historic preservation in the city.
