Skender and its joint venture partner, Blackwood Group, have begun extensive renovations of two West Side senior living apartment buildings for the Chicago Housing Authority and Michaels Development. The properties include Irene McCoy Gaines Apartments located at 3700 W Congress Pkwy in East Garfield Park and Albany Terrace Apartments located at 3030 W 21st Pl in South Lawndale.
The 17-story, 150-unit Irene McCoy Gaines property was built in 1964 and is undergoing substantial renovations to all units including updated HVAC, electrical and plumbing systems as well as new amenity spaces such as a redesigned dining room/community room exterior courtyard space with upgraded laundry facilities. Albany Terrace Apartments is also a 17-story building but with 350 units that were built in 1974 which are being significantly rehabilitated to upgrade resident units along with amenity common spaces while replacing the HVAC systems plus adding an additional elevator to meet residents’ needs. Electrical & plumbing systems will also be replaced during this renovation project.
