Aldi, the Germany-based discount grocer, is set to open a new grocery store in the West Loop area. The store will be located at 1016 W. Jackson Blvd., within a high-rise development currently being planned by Mavrek Development. According to Crain’s, Aldi has signed a 15-year lease for 22,000 square feet of space in the building.
The $150 million development project by Chicago-based Mavrek will include 380 apartments and is expected to break ground in 2025. The building will also feature affordable housing units as part of its plan.
Aldi currently operates over thirty locations throughout the Chicago area and recently opened a new store at Roosevelt Plaza in Lombard earlier this year. This expansion into West Loop is part of Aldi’s larger effort to add an additional 800 stores across the U.S., investing more than $9 billion by the end of 2028.
