The highly-anticipated revitalization of East Sixth Street is well underway, with the recent approval of a new residential project by Austin’s Historic Landmark Commission. Stream Realty has taken charge of the renovation, acquiring multiple properties in order to transform the area from its previous gritty reputation into an all-day destination for visitors. This includes plans for new dining and shopping options, as well as more pedestrian-friendly features like farmers’ markets and concerts. Leasing activity began earlier this year.
According to Community Impact, the commission has also given their approval for a larger mixed-use development in the district: 611 E. Sixth St., which will be transformed into hundreds of new apartments by Ryan Cos. The proposed Grant Building will span 184,000 square feet and feature six stories with 232 units.
