Weill Cornell Medicine to Open New Medical Research Center

Weill Cornell Medicine is expanding its research capabilities with the acquisition of five floors at 1334 York Ave. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning 200,000 square feet and set to open in 2026, will be leased from Sotheby’s world headquarters just a block away from Weill Cornell’s main campus.

This significant expansion is part of a $1.5 billion fundraising campaign that prioritizes key areas such as neuroscience and precision medicine. The facility has been designed for sustainability, emphasizing energy efficiency and natural light. With an expected workforce of over 700 faculty and staff members, this center will serve as a hub for innovation and collaborative research efforts. The first phase is scheduled to commence in early 2024.

According to Dr. Robert A Harrington , the Stephen and Suzanne Weiss Dean of Weill Cornell Medicine and provost for medical affairs at Cornell University: “By continuously investing in science, we have the power to revolutionize medicine by accelerating groundbreaking research from laboratory concepts into effective patient therapies.”
