Weill Cornell Medicine is expanding its presence on the Upper East Side with a state-of-the-art student residence. This new development will nearly double the current residential living space and provide modern accommodations for 272 students. The $260 million, 16-story building will feature 163 studios, seven one-bedroom, and 51 two-bedroom apartments. In addition to providing comfortable living spaces, this eco-friendly residence will also offer designated areas for studying, collaborating, exercising and socializing to promote academic success and overall wellness.
Generous donations from campaign co-chairs Jeffrey Feil and Sanford I. Weill have contributed significantly to funding this project with a combined total of $122 million towards its construction costs.
According to Cornell president Martha E. Pollack: “For over a century now, Weill Cornell Medicine has been known for producing exceptional doctors and researchers who have revolutionized our understanding of medicine.” She further states that the new student residence will enhance the educational experience by providing top-notch living arrangements that support students’ academic pursuits at Weill Cornell Medicine.
This expansion in UES marks an exciting milestone in Weill Cornell’s continued commitment towards excellence in education.
